Description
Located on the south bank of the Platte River near Fremont, Nebraska, Cedars is home to Mid-America Council's Boy Scout summer camp. It also hosts Cub Family Weekends and Wood Badge training.
Camp Cedars, comprises the western half of the Covered Wagon Scout Reservation and is located approximately three miles northeast of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. It has been Mid-America Council's principal long-term Boy Scout resident camp since 1939. Cedars consists of 360 acres of wooded hills and meadows on the bluffs overlooking the south bank of the Platte River. Camp Cedars features a heated pool with a shower house, accessible to the physically challenged; air-conditioned HunTel Systems dining hall, seating over 500; the Bates Amphitheater with space for over 1,000 campers overlooking the beautiful Platte River; a multi-disciplined shooting sports facility featuring the Protzman Arena, Scott Family Shotgun Range, a brand new pistol range; and the Dixon Family Nature Center.
Other facilities include the Smith Administration Building, Scott Director's Cabin, Karp Pavilion, Rotary Shelter, Millard Resource Center, Order of the Arrow building, Haddix Trading Post and Scott Storm Shelter. In 2015, three brand new shower/restroom facilities were opened. A new bunkhouse/multipurpose building is currently under construction with completion scheduled for fall of 2016.
Fifteen campsites provide 264 permanent tent platforms, including the Armstrong McDonald wheelchair-accessible campsite, for Scouts and leaders. There are two additional campsites without platforms.
Camp Cedars also boasts the premier Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (COPE) ropes course, a full equestrian program (summer), ATV safety program (summer), a lake for canoeing, rowing, stand up paddle boarding and fishing. The lake has been recently dredged and restocked with several species of fish. Camp Cedars also features the 60-foot high Storz Tower for climbing and rappelling.
This camp currently has four FEMA rated storm shelters for inclement weather.
Camp Cedars is home to our premiere Boy Scout resident camp, which consists of 5+ weeks of camp with a large variety of merit badge and specialty programs. Additional information on the summer camp opportunities at Camp Cedars can be found at GoScoutCamping.org.
