Artist's Description
Wehrspann lake, located in southwest Omaha, is operated by the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District. The lake, which opened in 1988, was named in honor of Jerry Wehrspann, the late NRD general manager. The surface area of the lake is 239 acres. Visitors at this day-use only facility can enjoy biking, hiking, and jogging trails, nature trails, an arboretum, native prairie grasses, and a bird-watching/waterfowl observation platform.
The NRD's natural Resources Center features a visitor center with a variety of conservation exhibits and nature displays. This NRD is a regional government agency that protects ground and surface water, reduces flood threats, slows the effects of soil erosion, creates and enhances wildlife habitat and much more. Governed by an elected Board of Directors and working with other public agencies and citizen groups, the NRD emphasizes creation of cost-efficient, multi-purpose projects that create �Quality of Life� opportunities wh...
