Description
A common bird of the arid Southwest, the Curve-billed Thrasher occurs in a range of habitats. Perhaps because of its broader tolerances, it is the most widespread of the western thrashers.
The curve-billed thrasherthe common thrasher of the rich, cactus-laden Sonoran Desertcan be very conspicuous, sitting up on saguaro or cholla cactuses, making its presence known by its loud 2- or 3-note call, whit-wheet. It often builds its nest within a cholla cactus. Its foraging behavior is similar to other desert thrashers, probing for critters in leaf litter or in holes in the ground, and it sometimes feeds on berries or cactuses fruit.

Elizabeth, I liked your version of their call way better than mine...The one time I don't read a description....!!! They are fabulous singers though! JERRY
Elizabeth Winter replied:
Yes beautiful song and being from the midwest it is amazing that birds live in cactus! Thanks Jerry!

Elizabeth, These birds have their famous "ta tweet" or "ta tweet tweet" chirp but they can also sing like few other birds....fabulous birdsong. I have two families of them in my front and back yards here in Vail. They build their nests in big Cholla cacti where NO body is gonna mess with them! Nice capture here! JERRY

Love the capture and processing on this photo! The brilliant blue and green cactus topped with the bird make a wonderful composition. LF
